A conversation with Zoe Lam of UTSA Soccer

Zoe Lam is the first female Runners Rising Leader for 2023. Zoe is a junior defender/midfielder on the CUSA conference championship women’s soccer team. Originally from Cheyenne Wyoming, Zoe has several titles to her name including 2018 state champion. Zoe is also a force off the pitch earning both C-USA Academic Honor Roll and Commissioners Academic Medal for 2021-22. As a Runners Rising Leader, Zoe earned a long-term NIL deal with the Runners Rising Project. A conversation with Mia Krusinski of UTSA Soccer

UTSA Women’s soccer are the Conference USA champions for 2022. The talented ladies had a phenomenal run in the conference tournament that took place in Charlotte, North Carolina this last November. Defending the goal for UTSA was Mia Krusinski, a red-shirt sophomore goalkeeper from nearby Dallas, Texas. Mia saved 4 goal attempts in the championship game against FAU, earning her a spot on the All-tournament team. Prior to UTSA, Mia spent time at Florida Gulf Coast University before transferring back to her home state. Winning is very familiar to Krusinski. A conversation with Kevorian Barnes of UTSA Football

By now every UTSA football fan knows the name Kevorian Barnes. Barnes had a breakout season for UTSA after starting the year as the fourth running back on the depth chart. Kevorian finished the season with 857 yards and six rushing touchdowns and was selected as this year’s Conference USA Freshman of the Year. The future looks bright for Barnes as he hopes to continue to improve as UTSA transitions to the AAC next season. Prior to UTSA, Barnes was a standout at San Augustine High School in East Texas. Frankie Martinez really needs no introduction. The UTSA football walk-on turned starting left tackle for UTSA this year, Frankie has quickly become a fan favorite. His ‘next man up’ mentality has allowed him to step into the starting lineup when the team really needed him this year after several injuries on the offensive line. Coach Traylor couldn’t say enough about Frankie and the contributions he’s made to the team in 2022. A conversation with Mekaila Aupiu of UTSA Volleyball

Mekaila Aupiu is sophomore setter on the UTSA women’s volleyball team. Prior to UTSA Mekaila played at Klein Collins High school in Houston. She was also a member of the Houston Skyline club team. Mekaila started all four years at Klein Collins and won several awards from the GHVCA as well as several all-academic honors. At the club volleyball level, Mekaila owns the all-time record for the Houston Skyline with over 3,000 assists. As a freshman at UTSA, she played in 40 of 87 sets, had the second highest assists (185), averaged 4.62 per set, had 59 digs (1.48 per …

Q&A with Kyra White of UTSA Basketball

Kyra White is Junior transfer from USC on the women’s basketball team. She’s a San Antonio native and played her high school basketball at Converse Judson. In high school she was a three-time all-state honoree and helped Judson win the 2019 6A state championship. While at Southern California Kyra played in 77 games and started 22 times. She scored 138 points, posted 131 rebounds, 49 steals, 127 assists, and 25 blocks. Kyra took some time out of her busy schedule to answer some questions for the Runners Rising Project. A conversation with Kelsey Carpenter of UTSA Volleyball

Kelsey is a Junior, 6’2″ outside hitter on the UTSA volleyball team. She came to UTSA from Midlothian, Texas, where she attended Midlothian Heritage High School. Kelsey has seen action in both her freshman and sophomore years and looks to play a larger role this season. Last season Kelsey had 57 kills and 12 blocks in 45 or 87 sets.
