A conversation with Mekaila Aupiu of UTSA Volleyball

Mekaila Aupiu is sophomore setter on the UTSA women’s volleyball team. Prior to UTSA Mekaila played at Klein Collins High school in Houston. She was also a member of the Houston Skyline club team. Mekaila started all four years at Klein Collins and won several awards from the GHVCA as well as several all-academic honors. At the club volleyball level, Mekaila owns the all-time record for the Houston Skyline with over 3,000 assists.

As a freshman at UTSA, she played in 40 of 87 sets, had the second highest assists (185), averaged 4.62 per set, had 59 digs (1.48 per set average), and was named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Mekaila has increased her productivity in 2022. She is up to 235 assists for the year playing in 43 sets this year. Mekaila has also suprassed her debut season dig number of 59 and is now up to 66 this year. She also has 20 kills on the season.
